Educational objectives ¿The objective of teaching is to provide students with the fundamentals and skills necessary to acquire a design method capable of providing answers to the needs and problems associated with the complexity of exhibition projects.
The aim is to demonstrate skills and knowledge of the topics covered
Ask the right questions in order to observe and reflect on the relationship between space use and function
Develop the ability to analyse and conceive in terms of space, form size, orientation and material
To have the ability to gather and interpret useful data for the development of the project
To be able to communicate the design idea clearly.
Prerequisites ¿Basic knowledge of drawing, use of three-dimensional modeling programmes, technical drawing dimensioning rules
Teaching methods The course includes face-to-face lectures and individual classroom exercises on the topics covered during the lectures in order to deepen the subject matter and test learning.

Learning verification modality The verification of learning will be carried out by means of an oral examination on the dates set out in the examination calendar and includes the handing in of the project deliverables.
The examination consists of an interview lasting approximately 30 minutes in which the student must present his or her design idea and project work to the committee.

The lectures of a theoretical and design nature will be conducted in such a way as to provide students with basic knowledge in the following subjects:

Brief historical study of the theatrical buildings and the staging:
- Classical heritage - Renaissance and Baroque - the birth of the Opera
- Study of classical Italian theatrical buildings
- Study of new technological scenic towers and contemporary theater buildings.
- Study of alternative spaces for the theater.

Brief introduction to Perspective and its applications in Renaissance and Baroque theater.
- Peruzzi, Serlio, Palladio, Scamozzi, Buontalenti, Burnacini, Torelli, Bibbiena, Juvarra.
- The nineteenth-century melodrama:
Gonzaga and the Italian school of scenography for opera between the 1700s and 1800s.

The twentieth-century Italian school - Italian scenographers of the second post-war period:
- L. De Nobili - F. Zeffirelli - P. Pizzi - P. Samaritani - L. Damiani - E. Frigerio -
Analysis and study of scenographic sketches and fortographic documents of the classical Italian tradition with consequent explanation and study of the compositional elements of the scene.

Perspective and design theories
- Technique of theatrical layout
- Technique of perspective restitution with the following development of the necessary executive drawings.
- Classroom exercises on perspective drawing and design - Autocad program from 2016 onwards is required -
- The three-dimensional model
- graphic or pictorial techniques congenial to the realization of sketches
with particular attention to the gouache technique

After this first part, students will be offered a simple theme to develop independently with the production of sketches and perspective sketches.

Historical documentation

Great space will be given to historical and iconographic documentation. The documentation will be an integral part of the work presented and will constitute a fundamental element for the overall evaluation.
