Short Bio

Ilaria Armentano is actually a post-doc researcher in the Material Science and Technology group at the University of Perugia, in the Engineering Department. She has a long experience in the nanomaterial field in terms of materials synthesis, characterization, and surface properties. She was researcher at the Italian Interuniversitary Consortium on Materials Science and Technology (INSTM), at the NIPLAB laboratory on nanocomposites and multifunctional polymeric hybrid materials. She obtained her PhD (2006) discussing the thesis on: “carbon nanotubes: synthesis and functionalization techniques”. In the Ph.D research project, she was involved in carbon nanotube based materials. In the last 8 years she applied her knowledge and the basic know-how acquired in the material and engineering science in the biomaterial sector. In particular she worked mainly on two important subjects: nanocomposite scaffolds for biomedical applications based on biodegradable polymers, and surface modification method in terms of film deposition and plasma surface treatments. She was involved in National and International research projects on nanocomposite field: NANOFUN-POLY; NANOFIRE, VAMAS, POCO, SAMSUNG. In particular she was responsible in the Nanobiocom project founded by European Commission, for the development of new intelligent composite scaffold for bone tissue repair. In the National research programme she was involved in the T.A.U.T project, on Artificial transplantable human tissues. She was involved in the teaching activities at the University of Perugia, in the Material Science and Biotechology fields, at the Master Courses and at the undergraduate Courses, for different academic years. She was supervisor of 8 MSc degrees and 5 Ph.D thesis. She attended more than 30 International Conferences in the material science and biotechnology field with oral and presentation. She is author of more than 85 articles on revised journals and book chapter, reviewer for international journals and she is the guest Editor of “Silver Nanoparticles: Synthesis, Uses and Health Concerns”, 2013, Nova Science Publishers.
